How FairPlay calculates cricket statistics

Source

Finished matches from Sportmonks, a licensed cricket data provider, checked by FairPlay before they are stored. Nothing is typed in by hand.

What counts

The last 12 months of results, grouped into T20, one-day and first-class formats. Super overs are left out of limited-overs totals; rain-shortened matches stay in.

Limits

Teams need 10 results and venues 8 before they are ranked. The figures are FairPlay's own, not official records, and they describe the past only.

Cricket statistics questions

Where do FairPlay's cricket statistics come from?

From finished matches in FairPlay's verified Sportmonks match data. FairPlay checks each result before storing it and calculates every figure on these pages itself.

How often are the statistics updated?

Each page reads the latest stored results when it loads. A result is stored within about a minute of the match-data source marking a match finished.

Why are there no player statistics tables?

FairPlay publishes player tables only when it holds complete scorecards for every match in the period, so that no player is missed. Until then, player figures appear on each match centre scorecard and on player pages, which cover only the matches with a full FairPlay scorecard. Players are linked from scorecards, line-ups and team pages.

Are these official cricket records?

No. Official records are kept by the ICC and national boards. FairPlay's figures cover only the matches in its feed for the last 12 months.

Why can a team from a smaller league top the win percentage table?

Win percentage compares a team only with its own results. Teams in different competitions rarely play each other, so the table does not show that one team is stronger than another.

Do these statistics predict who will win?

No. They describe what has already happened. FairPlay's rates come from a separate, tested pricing model, explained on the FairPlay rates page.
